Rite Of Passage

Definition: RITE OF PASSAGE-noun:
any important act or event that serves to mark a passage from one stage of life to another.

My Grandma had it done as a baby.
My Mom had hers done as a baby.
I had mine done as a baby.
We took Karizma to get hers done at 2 weeks old.
So, in going along with tradition, Isabella has now had hers done, at 2 months and 2 days old...it is a rite of passage in our family.

Doesn't she look so pretty with the bling on her ears? She was so good and Daddy can't get enough of her looking like such a little lady!

And to answer the question in the comments: "Did she cry much?" - She did cry, of course, but as soon as the sweet girl helping us was done, and I held her, she stopped crying immediately. I think she cried more when getting her shots.

One of the reasons I prefer doing it so young is because she won't be tugging at her ear, thus keeping dirty little fingers away from it. Also, the pain will be long forgotten. My Mom and a nurse that worked the NICU told me that they used to offer ear piercing in the hospital back in the day like they offer circumcision. How weird is that? Well, knowing me, I probably would have taken them up on it. The ear piercing, not the circumcision ;0).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another rite of passage is becoming a 'big sister'. I am 13 years older than Elisa, my little sister, whom I lovingly call 'Baby'. And now, Karizma, 14 years older, gets to be 'big sister' to Isabella, whom she lovingly calls 'Bella'.

She looks so cute. Did she cry much?

Oh, so beautiful! My parents work with a lot of international military officers, and the Arabic ones especially pierce their daughters' ears really early. The dark skin and hair, big dark eyes, and sparkly earrings are a stunning picture! I've been tempted to do this for my girls when they were babies but I never did. I'm curious about the same thing Stacie is: did she cry much?

Oh my gosh !! How cute is that !!!
That's the same girl who pierced Gracen's ears. How fun, she looks beautiful.

I think that is smart about getting it done early, so she isn't tugging on it. I wish I would have done it early, Jessica is now really scared because she watched a little girl having it done and she started to cry. Now she doesn't want anything to do with it. I was four when I had mine pierced.

How cute...part of me would like to get Savannah's done, but I'm too chicken! It about killed me when Shelby had hers done at 3 or 4...she didn't know what was coming, but it was all her idea. I do agree with you on the remembering of the pain part...that's the only reason I want to do 'Vannah's, but like I said, I just can't make myself do it! Maybe Todd will... :-)

I love Isabella in the sling...she looks so cute. I know she's comfortable, I'm sure being packed around by her big sister...she just looks all wadded up in there...she's getting so big! :-)

Que Bella!!!

Isn't she the cutest baby, of course, along with my Ana!! :) Ana has the same dress that Isabella is wearing in the pic. LOL... my girls happened to walk in the room when I was reading your blog and they said "awwww, she is so cute...she sort of looks like Ana" We must be related...don't you think ? LOL

I had Ana's ears done at 2 months also. I wanted them done before this but they wouldn't...because of the vaccine "rule". Even though Ana hasn't had her vaccines yet, they still did it because she was 2 months. With my other girls I waited till they were 5 yrs. Back then I felt like I wanted them to want their ears done....but what girl doesn't want theirs done. So when we found out we were having a girl, my girls wanted their baby sister to have her ears pierced and not wait like they did.

So do you know what color her eyes are yet? I was always able to tell what color my babies eyes were going to be by the first week of birth. Can you tell?

She is precious. Muy bonita, la beba!

Blessings,
Chris in FL
